Comparing Carbon Footprint, Data & AI Practices

If you don't want AI being a part of your user experience, training on the content you generate, and you care about the environment, this should matter to you:

      Per Visit

      dollmob.com ............................ 0.05g CO2

      reddit.com.................................. 0.26g CO2

      discord.com............................... 1.13g CO2

Per Year (daily * est. visits per day * 365)

      dollmob.com ............................ 0.05g < 10/day * 365 = 182.5

      reddit.com ................................. 0.26g - 116 million * 0.26 * 365 = 30,160,000

      discord.com............................... 1.13g - 30 million * 1.13 * 365 = 12,373,500,000

Allows AI Generated User Content (e.g. artwork)

      dollmob.com .............................. no

reddit.com ................................... yes, allowed in many subreddits

discord.com ................................ yes, allowed in many servers

Reddit and Discord didn't start out using AI because it wasn't available.

No one can say if they would or would not have, and their impact on the environment, peoples' wellbeing, and the art world are far greater than any indie project could ever achieve, even if it tried.

I built dollmob.com as an alternative to social media because I want to do something positive with my skills and the AI tools that empower me to build big dreams. I use them responsibly and I'm accountable for the consequences.

If you attack me and continue to use these platforms, you're a hypocrite and a liar.

Dollmob isn't going anywhere. Eventually the people who mean what they say, stand up for what's right, are honest about their own impact on the world, and who care about other humans and artists will find their way here.

Or maybe not, and I'll have built the most feature-rich, over-engineered personal website in the history of the internet and called out some bullies. That doesn't mean they'll have won, because the facts laid out here will still be true, my footprint will still be smaller, and I'll never have to wish I'd been more kind.

      Attn beta users

Dollmob.com will be performing a data reset and closing it's beta testing temporarily while we develop better disclosures about AI and reconsider who we want our target user base to be.

Check back in July if that interests you, there will be another round of testing.

      • Likes on feed updates (e.g. Closet Update) are not persisted to the feed update
      • Blog images not rendering
      • Blog excerpts are placed in body text
      • The modal animation is annoying after the fifth time

      Welcome beta testers

Areas that need the most development:

      • Canvases
      • Doll Profiles
      • Wiki browsing
      • Wiki contributor hub

Canvases are designed to be collaborative, and multi-user features are expected to rollout later in the week. However, they need a fuller feature set, and I'm looking for suggestions for tool improvements.

Doll profiles. The doll profiles UI is... well, it's a long list of optional fields with an overwhelming presentation. I could really use a keen eye or some designer input for figuring out how to organize doll profile options to give users real flexibility without throwing a bunch of stuff at them.

Another sticking point is how different features interact.

The connection between doll profile and gallery or doll profile and closet is currently very awkward/clunky, for example.

Wiki browsing needs a more intuitive layout, and the wiki contributor hub is currently nested behind the Contribute menu on the main wiki page. This is where you go to review other users' submissions, so it needs to be easier to find.

If you find bugs, have suggestions, or need help you can message this @admin user, send an email to [email protected], or just reply in a comment here.

I appreciate you so much for being here! Thank you!

      Patch 0.0.1

There may be brief disruptions while a patch is deployed that should repair some of the database relationships and indexes that were destroyed during the reset before onboarding beta testers.

      Invite codes are live

You can generate an invite code for a friend by visiting your account settings page and clicking the 'generate invite code' button.

Once that code has been used, you'll be able to generate another after 24 hours. This is only meant to protect against spam. If you know of someone who would really like to sign up and your invite code generation is on a cooldown timer, send @admin a message or chat.
